The RG 306-NT-279 C-34 photograph of Amelia Earhart emerging from the bottom of the sea off Block Island, July 25, 1929, was treated in 2007 by Sara Shpargel, Senior Photograph Conservator, prior to exhibition loan to the International Center of Photography. The photograph was displayed in the exhibit, “Amelia Earhart: Image and Icon” from May 11 - September 9, 2007.

Treatment of the photograph for exhibition consisted of humidification and flattening, consolidation of lifted emulsion with dilute gelatin solution, and repair/reinforcement of creases and tears in the photograph and attached paper labels using Japanese tissue secured with wheat starch paste.
